Poker career
Ferguson began playing poker at age 10 and later honed his skills playing online poker for play money on IRC while in college. He started playing tournaments in California in 1994 and entered his first WSOP in 1995. He is nicknamed “Jesus” due to his long hair and beard, and he is known for a highly mathematical style influenced by game theory and computer simulations.
World Series of Poker
Ferguson won his first WSOP bracelet in 2000 and later won the 2000 WSOP Main Event for $1,500,000. He won his sixth bracelet at the 2017 WSOP Europe in the €1,650 Pot-Limit Omaha Hi-Lo 8 or Better event, and his results helped him win the 2017 WSOP Player of the Year award.
